Family owned and operated for over 85 years.
Daisy Mae McCowan, age 92, of Lansing, MI went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 16, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; brothers, Wes, Frank, Chess, Midge, and Gib; sister, Mary Etta. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Patsy and Dan Loomis, Linda Quist, Jimmy McCowan, Timothy McCowan; six grandchildren, Marne, Stephen, Heather, Joshua, Tara, and Bethany; 14 great-grandchildren, Keira, Niklas, Kaiden, Kyler, Mena, Kayla, Draven, Sophia, Isaac, Isabelle, Quinn, Reann, Kinley, and Maddox; sister, Zetta Pearl. Daisy was a hard worker all her life. Growing up, she picked cotton and waitressed. In 1946 she married WWII veteran Richard McCowan. Their family attended church consistently and were great memorizers of the Word. She worked hard both in and out of the home, as a mother, housewife, waitress, furniture factory worker, and saleswoman. She loved to care for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She took care of her invalid husband for years. She always made sure the birds and even the squirrels were fed. Daisy was an avid gardener who often gave unusual flowers to friends, family, and even John Ball Zoo and Park in Grand Rapids. She loved to cook and have family over for holidays, making special dishes and especially desserts. Her greatest love, however, was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she served faithfully for over 65 years in a variety of capacities, especially as a teacher, AWANA leader, choir member, and member of Riverbend Bible Church and City View Church in Grand Rapids. She and Richard sponsored Shamal, a Christian man from Bangladesh, who lived with them for five years until his wife and son could join him in America. Through her whole life, Daisy showed the love and care of Christ to all she knew. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 24, 11 am at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Keith Sova officiating. Burial Rosedale Memorial Park.
