Obituary

Remembering Cyrus Krussell

Cyrus Krussell, age 27, of Hopkins, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Cyrus was a loving son, brother, cousin, and true friend. He had a servant's heart and never said no to someone who needed a hand. Loyal and deeply devoted to the people he loved, Cyrus was a true light to everyone he met. He had his own special quirks, but he could strike up a conversation with anybody and leave them smiling. He never judged anyone, and everybody loved him for it.

Cyrus made a lasting impact on the small-town community of Hopkins, where neighbors up and down the street knew him and will miss him dearly. He enjoyed airsoft outings and video games with his buddies, treasured his years in Boy Scouts and the camping trips that came with them, and was a dedicated member of the robotics team for several years. Above all, Cyrus loved the Lord and serving others. He enjoyed his time spent volunteering at church whether working the soundboard or assisting with youth group. He will be dearly missed by so many.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Sandra Cole and Laura Cole, and his grandfather, Thomas Krussell. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Lowell and Sarah Krussell; siblings, Albert Krussell, Benoit and Marie Krussell, Vincentand Makayla Hunderman, Nahum Krussell, and Abraham Krussell; grandparents, Pearl Krussell, Gordon and Valerie Richardson, and Edward Cole; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Georgetown Christian Fellowship, 3668 Port Sheldon St., Hudsonville. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 10-11 am at church prior to the service. A luncheon will  follow the service.

It is so difficult to find the words to write, because there are so many things I want to say, and I wish I could have said. Cyrus was not just a coworker to me. He was a friend. He did everything everyone has said about him and beyond that. There were times he had my back even when he didn’t need to at all, and could have let me handle my issues on my own. But he was never that type of person. He would have stood against the world with you, but now he is standing with the Lord. And out of all the things I can say about Cyrus, there is nothing I recall about him more than his devotion to God and the people he loved around him, and even strangers. He deserved an amazing life, and I know thats what he had, with all the people that loved him too. The first person to be identified and recorded in the September 11, 2001 attacks was a chaplain working with New York’s fire department. Father Judge was offering all the help he could in the last struggling and terrifying moments for these people when he passed away. I can only think of how he was still serving God and the people around him in his moments of death, and Cyrus was doing the same. Father Mychal Judge had his mentor, Father Michael Duffy, give his homily. Ever since hearing the words Father Duffy spoke about Father Judge, they stuck with me. And after learning about Cyrus’ passing, they shortly moved on to fit him very well. During Father Judge’s homily, Father Duffy joked about similarities between Judge and Sister Theresa, with how many lives he touched. Duffy said everyone thought Judge was their best friend. 3,000 people showed up to show respects to Father Judge. I know if everyone who wanted to see Cyrus in his last moments showed up, we’d almost have that number. I will put the last words of what Father Duffy said about Father Judge on that day. I can only think of Cyrus. “And so, this morning we come to bury Myke Judge’s body, but not his spirit. We come to bury his voice, but not his message. We come to bury his hands, but not his good works. We come to bury his heart, but not his love. Never his love.” And I wish I could come up with such a beautiful way to put Cyrus’ goodbye into words. We will all miss him. He was devoted to so much. I wish I could work with this fool one more time. He was a great guy, and treated everyone around him with immense, even sometimes undeserving kindness. He never took anyone’s rudeness on the job to heart, because he knew just how people are. And he loved his job so much. Unless he was annoyed with nothing going on, he always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed seeing his coworkers in the morning, and getting a good day of work in. He loved being social. He would have something to talk about any given time. I remember him talking to me about his airsoft constantly, what new equipment he got, and how much fun it was to do so much on the fields with those guys. He would also mention how great of friends he had in the GTAV cop roleplaying servers, and how much fun he would have with his buddies. I am constantly in disbelief over his loss, and find myself crying unexpectedly. I did not know Cyrus as well as many of you may had, even having been a coworker. I did not know many things about him, and now I will never learn those things, at least from him. But I am glad he had so many other people that knew him, that loved him, and that he could count on. Because if any of us needed to count on Cyrus, he did everything he could. As hard as it is I will finally stop here, but I will never stop remembering the person you were. You were extraordinary, faithful, loving, fearless, and important to so many people. Thank you for the time to know you, it was a blessing.

— Kaylee Gibbs

I grew up with Cyrus, he was one of the couple kids in my class that also lived in the town of Hopkins. He always came over to my house growing up asking to shoot hoops or ride bikes. I remember he showed me a spot in town where he and his friends made some dirt ramps and jumps to ride the bikes on. He was always a friendly face, always kind. We grew apart as the years went on but he was a kind soul, always so helpful, always staying positive. One of the last times I saw him was a couple years out of high school I had gotten into an accident outside of town with my sister, not knowing it was me, he was the first person to happen to be there to stop and check if we were okay, of course I did a double take and so did he. He was kind and supportive and I know he always had a heart to help others in need. There was never bystander mentality with Cyrus, he went head on into situations. He was determined, hard working, strong willed, and uniquely himself in every situation. One of the most authentic people I've ever met in my life. I know the Lord was proud to welcome him home and upon coming home was told "well done, my faithful servant." Cyrus you were very loved and respected in the whole Hopkins community and you impacted so many lives just being yourself and having the heart you have, thank you for being a light in this world. Rest well old friend.

— Abby

Hey everyone, I knew Pack, aka Dawson, aka Cyrus, for quite a while. He was not only my mentor, but also one of my very good friends. Anytime I needed something, he was there for me. Even if he was at work and only had 20 minutes to spare, he would take that time to come talk to me. I looked at Cyrus as a brother, and he meant more to me than I could ever put into words. I still remember the first day I met him. He talked to me like we had known each other forever. There was just something about him that made you feel like you belonged. Later on, I followed in his footsteps and joined LCSO and IA. Honestly, he was the reason I joined in the first place. He inspired me more than he probably ever realized. When I heard about his passing, it hurt more than I can explain. But I keep thinking back to one conversation we had at work. I told him, “Stay safe. Don’t let anything happen to you, Dawson.” He looked at me and told me, “I’m in God’s good hands. If something happens, it’s what He wanted, and I’ll be okay, brother.” Those words have stayed with me. Brother, I know you're in a better place now, but your departure was far too soon and far too quick. I’ll always miss you, and I’ll always be grateful that I got the chance to know you, learn from you, and call you my brother. I hope you hit those golden streets on two wheels. I hope your mansion has a 10-acre field full of mud, with some hubs to lock in. Crank it loud. Hold it down ’til I get there. And when I do, I hope you’ve got some new stories to tell. Rest easy, brother. You’ll never be forgotten.

— Joe wood

I may not have known Cyrus for very long, but from the short time we had together within the INSRP FiveM server I had met one of the best guys on this world. Cyrus was one of the best, always looking out for his own, pushing to make changes and making sure everyone had a good time. I knew him as K. Dawson or PACK but whatever I called him at the time I always knew that he was a good friend, better person and a great Deputy. Rest easy buddy.

— C. Harris

Howdy yall, some may not know me, but I first met Cyrus, who I knew as Dawson at the time, back, as long as I can remember, back in Indiana State Roleplay, and from what I can remember, I formally met him when I was a Major with the Police Department there, which started off our Friendship, we spent some good times in that server, playing different games together, patrolling with each other and just having fun, whenever I was on and ran into him, my day just became better and I always had fun playing with him, I enjoyed some of the scenes I was on with him, and even more when we played Ready or not Together I had a lot of fun, I did not know that he lived just 2 states away, we slowly lost touch since I left that server, and my discord got messed up, later on, I then reconnected with him on discord, seeing how he was, and we spoke, I told him that I was in a new server, Sunshine State RP, which also posted here, and he asked if he could after I also offered, to which I then joined his Trucking company for another game with a bunch of his friends, and during that time, when I ran into him spoke with him, and even went on Ride Alongs with him, we had fun, we were still touch and go when it came to talking in DMs, like usual, but it was always a blast to hang out with him, and if I could hang out with him one more time, then I would, but sadly that time came to a end, and it is hard for me to show feelings, but the moment I received a DM from his Brother informing me, and in the discords we shared, that he passed away, that made me sad and angry, I will miss him a lot, and today was the first day in ages that I actually almost cried after hearing the news, I will send all of the prayers I can to his family and friends, and if I can make it to the memorial, I would, but sadly with the drive and gas, that makes it impossible for me, so I will do the best I can, Cyrus, thank you for being the best person that I have met, and I am sorry for your loss everyone. Will he always be in our hearts. -Justin Fitzpatrick, Captain, HCSO, Sunshien State RP.

There are some names I preserve because history remembers them. And there are others I preserve because people do. Cyrus was not a king, nor a warrior from some ancient tale. He was a son. A brother. A friend. A man who could make people laugh, even from miles away, through nothing more than a voice in a headset and time spent together. To those who knew him, that was enough to make his life part of their story. Twenty-seven years was not enough. But a life is not measured only by how long its story was allowed to be told. Sometimes, it is measured by how many people still speak your name when the final page has turned. And tonight, many people are speaking his. So I will add one more voice. Rest well, Cyrus. Your story was shorter than it should have been. But you were here. You were loved. You made people laugh. And you will be remembered.

— The Chronicler & The Ensemble, EverLore

Where do I even start… Cyrus and I have been friends for roughly 10 years where we had met playing online games and creating communities together. Cyrus was not only a great friend but also someone that truly cared about others in a way that is unthought of. I will forever remember the countless nights where him, myself, Sam, Cody, Dakota, Justin, Niko, and several others would just stay up all night enjoying the company of one another even if we only knew each other on a virtual platform. I would do anything to just have one more night with him and the rest of the guys. Cyrus I will never be able to put into words the impact you’ve had on my life and knowing that you’re truly gone is a hard pill to swallow. Cyrus and I have always planned to meet up in person due to us only living hours away from each other but unfortunately we never got that chance, to his family I would like to thank you all for providing myself and our buddies the chance to get to know such a humble, down to earth, and caring person that will FOREVER be cherished and missed. I wish I could share more memories as they flood my mind and I fight through tears writing this but overall, rest in peace buddy… God speed 🕊️

— Justin F

I met Cyrus (or as I knew him, Dawson) online a year or two ago. I’ll be honest I don’t remember the exact date we started talking more frequently, but I do know Cryus was a deeply caring individual who could make anyone’s day better. Late night conversations, gaming together, and just overall being in his presence was always rewarding. I know things got a little rocky from time to time for us but you’ll leave a lasting impression on me. I’ll miss hearing you laugh or having you tell me off for something stupid I said. You were and always will be an amazing person. Rest easy my friend. - Peace

— Cody Hall

I am deeply saddened to hear of Cyrus’s passing. I knew him as Dawson through several role playing communities , and he was someone who truly left a lasting impact on everyone around him. He was always kind, caring, willing to help, and could always find a way to make people laugh. Dawson gave so much of his time to our community and helped shape everything he worked on into what it is today. Even after he moved on from a server, the friendships he made and the impact he had never went away. My deepest condolences go out to Cyrus’s family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Please know that there is an entire online community mourning alongside you and remembering the person he was. Rest easy, Dawson. You will be greatly missed and never forgotten. 🖤💙

Dear Family and Friends of Cyrus Krussell, known to many of us in the Indiana State Roleplay community as K. Dawson, My name is Josh Perez, though within our community I am known as Ash Blossom. I serve as a Captain with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana State Roleplay. I wanted to reach out personally and express my deepest sympathy, respect, and condolences to everyone who loved Cyrus. It is difficult for me to find the right words, because I still cannot fully believe that he is gone. To me, Cyrus was more than another member of our community. He was a mentor, a great friend, and someone I knew I could turn to whenever I needed advice or simply didn't know what to do. He helped me become a better member of our community, a better team leader, and, in many ways, a better person. I wish I had spoken with him more. But the conversations and moments we did share are ones I will always remember. Cyrus was a genuinely kind soul. Even when he was busy or at work, he would still take the time to answer someone's questions, explain something they didn't understand, or offer guidance when they needed it. I was one of those people. There were times when I went to him because I didn't know what to do, and he was there to help me. That kindness may have seemed like something small at the time, but it wasn't small to me. It left an impact on my life, and I know I'm not the only person in our community who can say that. I keep wishing we could have had a little more time. One more conversation. One more laugh. One more night together in the community or in the server. One more opportunity to tell him how much his guidance meant to me. Hearing that we lost Cyrus came as a complete shock. I cried, and even now, writing this, it is difficult to put everything I'm feeling into words. There are moments where the words simply won't form. I just wish he could have stayed with us a little longer. I miss him. I truly do. Please know that Cyrus mattered to us. K. Dawson will be remembered within our community not simply for the deputy he portrayed, but for the person Cyrus was behind as his character the friend, a mentor to some, and the kindhearted person he was always willing to help someone else will be remembered. I hope your family can find some comfort in knowing that, even from miles away, Cyrus touched people's lives. He left behind memories that we will carry with us, and there are people in our community who are better because they had the privilege of knowing him. And to Cyrus, I want to say one final thing: Que vayas con Dios. Que Dios reciba tu alma en el cielo y te conceda la paz eterna. May you go with God. May God receive your soul in Heaven and grant you eternal peace. Rest peacefully, Cyrus. Thank you for your friendship, your guidance, and everything you gave to me and to our community. You may be gone from our patrols, our conversations, and the community we shared together, but you will never be gone from the memories of the people whose lives you touched. Your kindness and the memories you gave us will remain long after our final patrol together. We miss you, Dawson. We will remember you. And we will carry your memory with us. Rest easy, brother. We've got it from here. With my deepest sympathy, condolences, and respect, Josh Perez | Ash Blossom Captain, Lake County Sheriff's Office Indiana State Roleplay Community

— Joshua Perez

I played with Cyrus online for almost the last three years. I was actually supposed to voice chat with him last weekend but life kicked in. Boy do I wish I could go back and make time. Cyrus was one of the funniest, most intelligent, and sarcastic people I’ve ever met🤣 but, Cyrus would’ve given his shirt off of his back for ANYONE though. Cyrus was an amazing individual and I’m genuinely gonna miss him. Rest easy brother, We’ll miss you and you’ll always be in our prayers

— Russell Dodge

I am one of Cyrus's online friends; I met him more than a decade ago. He was always laughing and having fun with us no matter what we were doing, He was an amazing dude...

— David James

To Cyrus’s family, My name is Joshua Rizzo, and I am the owner of a GTA5 FiveM community called Indiana State Roleplay. I have struggled to find the right words because nothing I write feels big enough to explain what Cyrus meant to our community or how deeply his loss is being felt. Our community has more than 4,000 members, and as its owner, I know it is impossible for me to personally know every person who comes through our doors. But I knew Cyrus. In our world, we knew him as Kacy Dawson, or simply Dawson. For more than two years, he was more than just a name on a screen or a voice in a Discord channel. He was part of our community, part of our memories, and part of our lives. My relationship with Cyrus was real. We had plenty of great moments, but we also had moments when we disagreed, became frustrated, and walked away from each other angry. We did not always see eye to eye, and I will not pretend that we did. But no matter what happened, we always found a way to move forward. Before long, we would be back together, laughing, talking, and doing something ridiculous late at night in a video game. Looking back now, I would give anything to have even one more disagreement with him because it would mean he was still here. That was Cyrus. He cared deeply, and sometimes that meant he spoke up when others stayed quiet. If he believed something was wrong, unfair, or unjust, he was going to say something. If he felt someone was being mistreated, he stood up for them. He was not afraid to challenge me, our leadership, or anyone else when he believed we could do better. At times, I may not have appreciated it as much as I should have, but I understand now that it came from a place of genuine care. He wanted our community to be fair. He wanted people to be treated with respect. He wanted integrity to mean something. Dawson was always willing to step up, lend a hand, and teach someone who needed help. He worked to create systems that promoted fairness and accountability, especially for our law-enforcement roleplayers. He did not just participate in our community he left his mark on it. But beyond everything he contributed, I will remember the person behind the screen. I will remember the conversations, the laughter, the late nights, the stupidity, and the moments when none of us took the game or ourselves too seriously. I will remember the times he listened when someone needed to vent and the advice he gave when someone felt lost. Cyrus looked out for people. He cared about them. That is a rare quality, and it is one of the many reasons his absence hurts so much. Online friendships can be difficult to explain to people who have never experienced them. We may not have shared the same physical space, but the friendships, laughter, arguments, memories, and love were all real. Cyrus was real to us. He mattered to us. And he will always matter to us. I wish I had told him more clearly how much I appreciated him. I wish we had more late nights ahead of us, more laughs to share, and more opportunities to drive each other crazy. I wish I could hear his voice join the channel one more time. There are so many things I wish I could say to him now. Please know that Cyrus will never be remembered by us as simply another member of a gaming community. He was our friend. He was Kacy Dawson. He was part of the Indiana State Roleplay family, and there will always be a place in our story that belongs to him. My heart breaks for each of you. I know that our grief cannot compare to the pain of losing someone you loved as family, but I hope it brings you some comfort to know just how many lives Cyrus touched even from behind a computer screen. He was known, he was valued, he was loved, and he will be deeply missed. Our entire community stands beside your family. We grieve with you, we pray for you, and we will carry Cyrus’s memory forward together. With love and my deepest sympathy,

— Joshua Rizzo

— Dakota mcginnis

I met Cyrus back in mid 2024 online. We weren't close by any means, but when we talked it was always a good time. In my time knowing him, he was a supportive person and a good guy in general. Its unfortunate his life was cut short, but knowing he lived a fulfilling and happy life makes me rest easier. Rest easy buddy.

— Jayden

Truly one of my dearest friends when we played fivem together we used to have hour competitions together even though we both went to separate department we still remained friends for the four years leading up to this. Truly someone who I hoped to meet in real life some day and hoped to sometime play air soft together when ever I finally rode my slow self up to Michigan. Rest easy up there bud your friend Twitchell.

— Graceson Twitchell

This is on behalf of the entire Server that he was deeply known in and was loved to have around and laugh with, Rest in peace, Cyrus. we still can’t believe you’re gone. You were truly one of a kind, and your kindness, humor, and the memories you made with everyone who knew you will never be forgotten. You left this world far too soon, but the impact you had on the people around you will live on forever. My thoughts and prayers are with your family, friends, and everyone who loved you. Rest easy, Cyrus. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten. -Sunshine State

I honestly don’t know how to put this into words. Two years ago, I met Cyrus playing FiveM. What started as just another person behind a screen turned into a friendship I never expected. We spent countless hours playing games together, laughing at stupid crap, getting into trouble, talking about life, and making memories that I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. It’s crazy how someone you meet online can become such a real and important part of your life. Cyrus wasn’t just someone I played games with, He became my friend. Someone I looked forward to seeing online. Seeing “Pack” popping up on my screen could instantly make a bad day better. I never thought that one day I’d be sitting here trying to find the right words to say goodbye. I’m going to miss the laughs, the late nights, the arguments over Ready or Not and who’s gonna breach the door, the ridiculous moments, and all the memories we made together. More than anything, I’m going to miss knowing that you were out there somewhere. Thank you for the friendship, Cyrus. Thank you for every laugh, every game, every conversation, and every memory. You may have started out as someone I met through a screen, but you became a real friend, and that friendship meant more than you probably ever knew. Life can change in a moment, and sometimes we don't get the chance to say the things we should have said. So I hope wherever you are, you know that you were loved, you were appreciated, and you will be missed. Rest easy, brother. Until we meet again. ❤️

— Hunter Jones

I met Cyrus over 8 years ago online. Sadly I was never able to meet up in person however we've played thousands of hours of games together. He was always at my side whenever I needed him and I would always answer the call anytime he called. Thank you Cyrus for being one true best friend and I'll miss you. Have fun up in heaven for us!

— Cyrus Sigler

I met Cyrus online through video games and shared community chats. Any time we'd be in a voice call together, he always had me laughing. I'm going to miss his voice and his antics. My condolences to Cyrus' family and friends. Knowing that he loved the Lord and had a relationship with him makes my heart rest easier, and I can imagine him standing with Jesus waiting for the day he's going to see the rest of his family again, and welcome them with open arms.

— David Fisher

I met Cyrus way back in like 2015 or 2016 he was always my go to buddy to play games with back then. I’m really saddened by this because we lost contact over the years and I just recently found most of the old group again. I regret not talking to him more but he was a very good guy and I wish his family the best. Really sorry we didn’t talk more buddy. You will be missed.

— Ethan

I originally met Cyrus online, and we played a few different video games together. It was always a great time, no matter what we played. I was lucky enough to meet Cyrus once in Detroit, and I wish I was able to spend more time with him. We were going to go on a cruise together in February. Thank you, Cyrus, for being such a great friend and human being. I wish the best for you and your family. I know you’re in good hands up there. Love you man.

— Collin Tracy

I met Cyrus online a few years back. He was always a reliable guy and always knew how to crack a joke in a bad situation. I met him in person once when he came to Detroit to meet up for my birthday. We were supposed to go on a cruise together in February. Rest in peace my friend.

— Braden Barr

Cyrus was a student in an econ class at HHS that I had the privilege of teaching each week. I loved his sharp mind. He embraced the concept and was so hungry for a deeper understanding. I've run into him several times since highschool and we always shared a story. God bless his family and friends as you celebrate his life. Cindy Lowman

— Cindy Lowman

My daughter was in the same class as Cyrus and later on I had the privilege of working with him at MFH for awhile. He was always so polite and such a gentle soul. I would run into him from time to time and we would have some catching up conversations. He will truly be missed.
