Remembering Cynthia DeKoning
Cynthia DeKoning, age 85, of Hudsonville, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Cindy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Helen DeYoung. She will be fondly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Jasper Jr. (a.k.a. Hap); their son, Todd (Leanne) deKoning; grandchildren, Dirk (Catherine) DeKoning, Kate (Jander) Romero, Nik (Kylie) DeKoning; great-grandchildren, Lana, Chloe, and Tyler; her brother, Mark (Phyllis) DeYoung; her sister, Laurie (Bill) Merchut; and several nieces and nephews.
Over the years Cindy served in many ways at her church through teaching Sunday School, serving as a counselor for the Calvinette program, and making meals. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, taking many trips and cruises over the years. She enjoyed baking, reading, playing games, and knitting. Cindy volunteered for many years at International Aid and Love INC. Her warm spirit, love for her family, and enjoyment of life will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service. The burial will take place at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday, August 27, from 5-7 p.m. and on Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to either Bible League International or International Messengers (Romero Missionaries General Fund) supporting the mission work of her granddaughter Kate and Jander Romero in Iquitos, Peru.
