Clarence Eugene Hamilton

Clarence Eugene Hamilton, aged 81 of Byron Center, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, with his wife, Nancy, by his side, on March 2, 2017. Clarence was born January 6, 1936 in Grand Rapids, MI. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956. He worked at General Motors for Local #730 at Fisher Body Plant #1 for 33 years, retiring in 1996. Clarence enjoyed photography, secondhand stores, woodworking, fishing, and hunting. In 1987, on one of his hunting trips, alone in his tree stand, he realized something was missing in his life. He gave his life to Jesus that day, and from that point on, was intent on others seeing Jesus in the way he lived his life. He is now in Heaven worshiping Him, and to those missing him, this brings much peace. Clarence spent time investing in the lives of many relatives -- his honorary grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews. He loved playing games with them, taking them fishing, and attending their plays, recitals, birthday parties, and sporting events. Always by his side, was his wife of 60 years, Nancy (Harvie), whom he married on November 10, 1956. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Stephen, David, Luke, Isaac, and Jenna Schupp; godchild, Theresa Ryan; siblings, Jack Hamilton, Judy Suttorp, Joe Mattone, Dorothy Jean Cunningham; sisters-in-law, Norma Jean Vincent, Bernadine Shoults, and Catherine Hamilton; and special cousin, Ron (Karen) Simmons; as well as many nieces and nephews, and his special caregiver, Barb Janis. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Dorothy and Joe Mattone; father and mother in-law, Johnnie and Arlene Hanner; siblings, Alberta Bigler and Bill Hamilton; sister-in-law Patricia Wolfe; and best friend Ray Owen. Funeral services for Clarence will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 pm at Heritage Baptist Church, 1570 – 60th Street SE, Kentwood, with Pastors Dave Graef and Tom Koon officiating. Interment Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the church on Tuesday from 11 am -12:45 pm prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship or Heritage Baptist Church.
