Christopher Slabbekoorn, age 46, of Jenison was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, June 29, 2019.  Chris was preceded in death by his dad, John Donald Slabbekoorn.  He will be dearly missed by his wife of 17 years, Julie; his daughter, Genevieve; mother, Bonnie Slabbekoorn; siblings, Robin (Roger) Schneider, Dawn (Robert) Hughes, Sheila (Rick) Armitage, parents-in-law; Ralph and Mary Hodgkinson; sister-in-law, Megan (Gerrit) Campbell, many nieces, nephews  and cousins.  Chris had many great times with his nephews, Nick and Rob, as they were close in age and spirit to each other and were often found getting into mischief together.  Chris was a dedicated, warm, loving husband and father.  Genevieve became the light of his life and he was dedicated to loving, caring, and providing for her well being.  Chris loved to cook, grill and smoke meats for intimate groups of friends and family.  Chris had several close friends that he considered to be family.  He was a handyman, helper, and putzer who could take things apart, improve it, and put it back together.   He was ready to lend a hand and help family and friends with repairs and maintenance around the home and at the family cottage.  A memorial  service will be held Saturday, July 6 at 11:00 am at Chapel Pointe Church, 3350 Baldwin St., Hudsonville.   Friends and relatives may meet the family from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, July 5 at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr SW, and from 10:00 to 10:45 at church on Saturday prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers please consider the needs of Genevieve for her future.
