Dear Mirna and family. Sorry to see Chet's passing. I worked for him right out of high school, ( Grandville High ) back in 1965 - 1972. A long time back with Jean Pine, Ben Mackus, Ken Ensing and I -- Randy Haskins when we were all there. My condolence goes out to you and your family. Randy Haskins

Sorry to hear of Chet's passing Myrna. You two were a perfect couple! A few weeks ago, looking through some boxes, I found my Moms (Ardie)old phone book. Looking through it, I found many names and yours was there also. Wondered if you still lived there. Wishing you and your family peace during this difficult time. Your Cousin, Linda McElroy

I think it must have been taken at a 4th of July celebration when I was a baby, it’s one of the earliest photos I have in my album and it’s of my Grandpa looking so proud to have his first grandson. I don’t remember that day but there would be many 4th of July get-togethers that I do remember. From seeing the Grandville fireworks from Grandpa’s backyard near Buck Creek to hot dogs at the cottage. The 4th of July was kind of OUR day. We had birthdays so close together that it made sense just to celebrate them at the same time, along with celebrating the birth of the nation. It was special to have that connection. The celebrating wasn’t just on the 4th, he started my art career by giving me the index cards to draw on during church, he came to my soccer games, he was there to cheer for me at track meets (and compare my times to my uncle’s), he was there at my wife’s graduation and he was there for so many others in the background volunteering and making sure they could celebrate too. My Grandpa always seemed to be a man on a mission, maybe that was from his time in the service, or maybe from working as a business owner, or maybe he just needed a project to work on. It showed me that if you’re lucky in life, it should be your mission to give something back to the world. It’s a legacy he has passed down to us grandchildren and as we celebrate a life well-lived, I can be proud to be his grandson.
