Family owned and operated for over 85 years.
At 6:39 p.m. on April 8, 2023, the Lord, in His own time, took Cheryl Kaptein, our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to glory. She closed her eyes on this side of the grave and opened them in glory to eternally dwell in the arms of Jesus. Although it saddens us to see her go, we rest in the comfort of the cross where her Savior proclaimed that He had conquered death and that His work was finished for her. We are assured by His resurrection that our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, has gone home to live with Jesus and she has heard Him say “Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter now into the eternal rest that is prepared for you”. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Kaptein. She will be remembered by her children, Kurt and Ruth Kaptein, Sandy and Steve Schout, Doug and Tammy Kaptein, and Dennis and Lori Kaptein, 17 grandchildren, Amy Kaptein, Laura and Ben Lubbers, Kelly and Justin Smidstra, Brandon and Macey Kaptein, Kara Kaptein, Shelley and Taylor Huttinga, Staci and Nate Hovinga, Dana and Miles Ulberg, Caleb and Allison Schout, Ashtyn and Corey Collins, Kennedy and Clayton Heneveld, Zach Kaptein, Corie Kaptein, Nate and Grace Kaptein, Abby Kaptein, Chloe Kaptein, Cassie Kaptein; and 15 great-grandchildren will remember her words of wisdom, her selfless attitude and her everyday priority to be near the Word of God. She is also remembered by her sister, Mary Elling; brothers and sisters-in-law, Nancy Barense, Vern Padding, Gary and Judy Kaptein, Lynda and Marc Scholten, and Jim and Evie Kaptein. As a family, we would like to thank the staff at Sheldon Meadows, where mom was so wonderfully cared for by those who sat with her during the nights, sang to her all hours of the day and expressed their love and compassion to her while she lived there for the past two years. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Protestant Reformed Church, 11225 8th Ave. NW, Grand Rapids with Rev. Justin Smidstra and Rev. Bob VanManen officiating. A graveside service will take place at Coopersville-Polkton Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, April 12, from 5-8 p.m. at the church and also on Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Protestant Reformed Special Education.
