April 10, 2023

Charles Jude Seguna, age 74, of Hudsonville, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023, at home, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia. Chuck was born on April 2, 1949, to John and Agatha Seguna in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating from Detroit Holy Redeemer High School in 1966, he attended Northern Michigan University, graduating in 1972 with a BA in education. Chuck became a teacher, principal, and school superintendent. He retired after 38 years as an educator. Chuck cherished his family and is survived by his wife, Paula; son, Joel Seguna; daughter and son-in-law, Olivia and Brian Johnson. He treasured them all, especially his two grandsons, Rocco and Crew Seguna. Chuck’s brother, John Seguna, of Dearborn Heights, was more than a brother, he was a very dear friend. Chuck was known for his wonderful smile, great sense of humor, and his very kind and generous heart. He found the best in everyone. Faith and family, and the Detroit Lions, were his most valued possessions. Chuck told hilarious stories, sometimes with a hint of exaggeration. He loved to make people laugh. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson SW, Grandville, with Fr. Stephen Durkee presiding. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, April 27, from 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Faith Hospice Trillium Woods or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

I was so sad when I heard of Chucks passing. But I bet the Lord has big plans for him.The last few days I have thought about all the fun we used to have. What great memories at your house, going to visit your mom ,and so many fun things our families used to do. Chuck was the kind of man everyone wanted to be around. We were all blessed to have a little part of him in our lives. He will certainly be missed. Love you all. judy,Ron,Chris Hawley and Jamie Hawley Tuin..

To the Seguna family. I had Mr. Seguna as a teacher at Ionia Junior High. He was my absolute favorite. He was also my sister Maggie Brindle-Burklow’s favorite. He was kind, engaging and made his classroom come alive. I have always had wonderful memories of him and was so sorry to hear of his passing. Please take comfort in the fact that he helped so many students to move forward. He was a wonderful man. Kind Regards, Christine Brindle

My heart is broken to hear of this loss . He was my principal at Twin Rivers elementary. I had lost my twin sister just as I was entering school and he took me under his wing . He truly cared for his students . He will truly be missed by many people . Many hugs thoughts and prayers sent to his family and friends.

Praying for you, Paula, Joel, Olivia and family during this sad time! Chuck was more than just a great boss, he was a mentor and a friend. His many lessons on life and teaching helped shape me into the fair and caring educator I am today. It was a joy to work for Chuck! He had a way with parents, staff, and students that was unmatched. The stories he shared, his infectious smile and pealing laughter are among the fond memories from my tenure at Twin Rivers Elementary School! With Love, Nancy A. Lillo
