Charles Norton

NORTON - Mr. Charles Norton aged 92 passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Mae Norton; parents, Frank and Hazel Norton; sisters, Mary Ann and Russell Bucek, Barbara Wojtulewicz; brother, David and Shirley Norton. Surviving are his children, Robert (Susan) Dood, Diane (Jack) VanWeelden; grandchildren, Bryan Eastwood (Jennifer Werkema), Amy (Mike) Winters, Scott (Heather) Dood, Daniel (Nicola) Eastwood, Mark (Lisa) Hendricks, Michael (Casey) Hendricks; great grandchildren, Tyler Hendricks, Melissa Miller, Tobey Hendricks, Makenna Winters, Sofia and Quincy Hatzinger-Hendricks, Miles, Kamden and Anya Dood, Brooke and Tim Diepstra, Alex, Michael, Caitlin and Joshua Eastwood; and his special niece, Julie. Charles grew up in Grand Rapids and attended Catholic Central High School and GR Junior College. He proudly served his country in the US Navy SeaBee's during WWII stationed on Johnson Island. Chuck enjoyed golf, hunting, bowling and most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved life and telling stories about his childhood with all his friends, his escapades growing up and when he was in the Navy, he could always bring a story to life and make you laugh. A favorite story Chuck shared - He worked as a repo man in the 1950's, his funniest story was he went and picked up a car and the tow bar broke and the car passed him on the road. Chuck retired from Oliver Machinery and was a member of the Grand Haven American Legion Post 28. He was a huge Green Bay Packers fan!! A private memorial service will take place at a future date.
