Charles Edward DeFreese Sr.

​Charles E. “Chuck” DeFreese, age 87, of Wyoming passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023. He was born August 12, 1936, in Goshen, Indiana to the late John and Hazel DeFreese. Chuck worked for Irwin Seating Manufacturing for over 45 years before retiring. He enjoyed snowmobiling and woodworking, especially building lighthouses and windmills. Chuck truly enjoyed the outdoors and time spent with his three furry companions, Carmel, Shadow and Angel. Charles married the former Mary Ellen Mast and she predeceased him in 2004. Surviving are six children, Mary TenHave, Millie DeFreese, James DeFreese, Linda DeFreese, Chuck DeFreese Jr. and his spouse, Jeffrey Smithey, Cindy DeFreese; two grandchildren, Timothy (Jenna) Post, Heather (John) Karakashian; four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard (Sandy) DeFreese and Michael (Bonnie) DeFreese; and several other loving family members. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Harold and Gerald “Jerry” DeFreese. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial in Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Friday from 9 - 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
