Chara Potyraj

Chara Lee Potyraj (Robbins), age 90, of Allendale, formerly of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 6, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Grace Robbins; her husband of 71 years, Edward; son-in-law, John Hansen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lottie, Frank, Jan, John, Anthony, Mary, Stella, and Joseph. Chara will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sue Brown, Sally Hansen, Kate and Mike Rodibaugh, Rob and Mary Kay Potyraj; grandchildren, Jacob and Michele Smith, Kyle and Janae Hansen, Joel Hansen, Benjamin and Audrey Rodibaugh, Jack and Julie Rodibaugh, Sara Rodibaugh, John and Beth Debri, Josh and Claire Potyraj, Matt and Lizzie Potyraj; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Gaye (Robbins) and Mike Scott; and many loving nieces and nephews. Chara was co-owner and bookkeeper of Robbins Lock Shop for many years. She and her husband, Edward, were active members of St. Luke University Parish and former members of St. Francis Xavier in Grand Rapids. She was active with many associations in Grand Rapids including the Polish Heritage Society, Gilda’s Club, Senior and Junior Guild, Altar Society, and food banks. Chara was very involved in the lives of her family, always supportive and attending their events and helping at their events however she could. She even still participated in monthly South High classmate breakfast, St. Luke’s knitting group and ladies’ coffee group. Chara’s family would like to thank the many friends who picked up and drove Chara to many activities and fellowship. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at St. Luke University Parish, 10144 142nd Ave. Jenison, 49428 with Fr. Bill Vander Werff officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family from 10-11 am at the church prior to Mass. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
