Chae Son Kim

Chae Son Kim, 76 years old, passed away peacefully in her home on October 16, 2025. 

Born in ChungCheongNam do, South Korea, on April 25, 1949. She immigrated to West Michigan in 1980 with her family and was an active member of the Hahn-In Christian Reform Church and the Korean community in Grand Rapids.

 Chae was born on a farm as the oldest of 6 siblings. She was an old soul even at a young age, to support the family and be responsible for her 4 sisters and 2 brothers. She was known for her stature compared to her peers as well as her outgoing personality. She was quick to strike up a conversation and even with a language barrier, it never slowed her down. She was known for her selflessness in helping others and being a great cook. She was always offering a helping hand and a plate to go after every get together.

 She is survived by her husband of 55 years: Chan Young Kim; 2 daughters: TongOk Kim (Zhuo Liao) and Tongchu Lee; son: Tong Sop Kim (Jinah) and 4 grandchildren: Jacquelyne Lee, Emily Kim, Andrew Kim, and Michael Lee.

 Funeral services will be held 10 AM on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood. Burial Jamestown Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday, October 19 from 4-6 PM at the funeral home and on Monday from 9-10 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
