Catherine Louise Bueche

Catherine “Kay” Bueche age 92, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2025. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Brian Bueche, and son-in-law, Dan Harrington; along with her sisters, Mary Eick, Martha Landgren and Agnes O’Donnell. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband John “Jack”, of 69 years; Mary Jo Bueche (Brian’s wife), Maureen (Chuck) Wegener, Ed (Linda) Bueche, Joe (Deb) Bueche, Cathleen Harrington, Louis (Karolyn) Bueche; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings Ed Eick, Betty Greene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kay was born in Cincinnati, OH and spent her childhood years in Detroit and later Grand Rapids, where she graduated from Marywood Academy and Aquinas College.  Upon graduation, she became a teacher whose first job was in a one room schoolhouse in Kent County. She continued to teach at Kelloggsville Public Schools until her retirement in 1999. Kay loved history and was a big part of the Wyoming Historical Society. During 20 plus years of retirement, Kay and Jack enjoyed traveling around Michigan and the Midwest to take part in civil war era reenactments at various historical sites to teach others history, especially surveying.  Most of Kay’s remembrances and stories began with the declaration that she was a teacher before she went into the details.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Holy Name of Jesus Church (1048 Chicago Dr., Wyoming, MI) with Rev. Charlie Brown presiding.  Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Friday, April 11, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (4031 Clyde Park Ave. SW, Wyoming, MI), or one-half hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. at the Church. A rosary will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or Holy Name.
