Calvin Carl

CARL - Mr. Calvin Carl age 87 of Wyoming, MI passed away on Saturday, August 27th 2016. Calvin was born on January 30, 1929, to Lester and Grace Carl, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Calvin met his wife, Jacqueline, in April 1946, and they married on January 29, 1949. The couple settled in Wyoming, Michigan. There, they raised seven children, and spent 64 years of marriage, before Jacqueline's passing, in 2013. Calvin was a committed family man, who enjoyed his time spent with loved ones, particularly at the family gatherings during the holidays. Calvin was also a dedicated employee, who worked at Reynolds Metals Co., retiring in 1988, after 37 years of service. He served as Treasurer, of the Godwin Heights Athletic Boosters, for 20 years, coached youth baseball, was an avid outdoorsman, and golfer. In his final days, he received tremendous care, and comfort, from St. Mary's Hospital and Brookcrest Nursing Home. Calvin was a devoted, loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, who will be dearly missed. He is survived by his Children, Susan (Ken) Buikema, Doug (Eleanor) Carl, Kathy (Bruce) Hinkley, Sherry (Bill) Coburn, Teresa (Mike) Hinkley, Chris Carl, Carleen (Kevin) Kribbet; 14 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Grace Carl; wife, Jacqueline Carl; brothers, Ray, Stan and Bob Carl. Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 3131 S. Division Ave. His family will greet relatives and friends Wednesday from 4 to 7PM and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment Kent Memorial Gardens.
