Calvin “Cal” Duane Bouma, age 74, of Jenison, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2016 with his loving wife, Annette by his side and is now resting in that BLESSED ASSURANCE with his faithful and loving Savior, Jesus Christ.
Cal was born on May 20, 1941 in McBain, Michigan to Aukie and Clara (Dekkinga) Bouma who preceded him in death. He attended Northern Michigan Christian High School and Lamar Barber School in Detroit. Cal was the co-founder of the Golden Razor Barber Shop in the Jenison Meijer Thrifty Acres with Dave Poortvliet. He retired, after 32 years, from Sysco Foods. He enjoyed hunting at Harold’s cabin, breakfast at Murphy’s, and spending time with his family and friends, including his honorary brother, Steve DeWindt and his fishing and checker-playing buddy, Richard Kloote. Cal and Annette also enjoyed traveling with their friends, Don and Marti Oosterbroek.
Cal will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 54 years, Annette (Seeley) Bouma; and their children, Lorri (Eric) Gierman, and Lisa (Bob) Puruleski; as well as 5 grandchildren, Jason and Joshua Gierman, and Alexis, Mike, and Rachel Puruleski. He also leaves behind 8 siblings, Nancy (Alden) Quist, Esther (Ervin) Zeerip, Harvey (Pat who preceded him in death) Bouma, Betty (John) Bos, John (Joan) Bouma, Pat Shananaquet, Harold (Ann) Bouma, and Shirley Brinks; brothers-in-law, Jack (Jean) Seeley, and Bill (Maurie) Seeley; sister-in-law, Kay (Jack) Weston; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family burial will be held at Georgetown Township Cemetery on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Rosewood Reformed Church (2795 Rosewood St., Jenison, Michigan) with a luncheon and time of fellowship to follow. Rev. Jim Goldschmeding and Rev. Howard Moths will be officiating the service. Family and friends may meet with the family during a memorial visitation on Monday from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon prior to the service at the church.
