Burton Shepard

Burton Carter Shepard, age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Burton was a proud United States World War II Navy Veteran and loved to share stories about his time in the service. He especially enjoyed discussing his time on Chincoteague Island and watching the wild ponies. Burton also loved dogs and bowling and shared his love of the game with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Marguerite Shepard; sisters, Joy Leif, Bethel Greinke; brother and sister-in-law, David and Marion Shepard, and nephew, Cordell Leif. Burton is survived by his daughter, Karen; grandchildren, Angela, Mark (Stephanie), David (Heather), Nicholas, and Richard; nephews, Steve, Greg, and Paul; and niece, Janet. A private memorial service will be held in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Burton’s name can be made to the Veterans Home in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
