Bruce Grant, age 92, of Wyoming, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, April 23, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy in 2008. He was a WWII Marine veteran proudly serving his country in the Pacific Theater. Bruce was a well known radio personality here in Grand Rapids at WOOD radio for many years until he retired. His attention to detail and planning for the next day’s show were what made him a household name in local radio. Bruce treasured his family and embraced the memories that were made together. He had a love of the outdoors too, enjoying many activities with family and friends. Above all, he had a passion for giving back to his community. He took great pleasure in working with organizations such as the Red Cross, March of Dimes, and Muscular Dystrophy. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Patti and Todd Johnson, Jim and Kathleen Grant of Oregon; his grandchildren, Jordan Johnson and wife, Emily Besley, Alex Johnson, Mikki Johnson, Charlie Grant, Libby Grant; sister-in-law, Patricia Walcott; many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. Family graveside services were held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grand Rapids. The family requests that in Bruce’s memory, memorial contributions be made to Grandville-Jenison Congregational Church or to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Railside Living Center for the compassionate care and love given to Bruce.
