Remembering Bruce Barthuly

Bruce Barthuly, age 63, of Jenison, passed away with family by his side and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Bruce was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, deeply passionate about his family. He cherished spending time with his wife, children, and his grandchildren. Throughout his life, Bruce demonstrated unwavering love and commitment to his family. Bruce enjoyed Packers and Michigan football, and though he was quiet in his faith, he had a profound love for the Lord. He served his family, friends, and church with humility, often working behind the scenes to support those around him. Bruce’s life was centered on his love for God. He strove to be a better man of faith each day, guiding his family to live in a Christian household. His devotion to the Lord was always his first priority, and he led his wife and children with grace and conviction. He battled ALS with remarkable strength, and though he was taken from his loved ones too soon, his impact remains. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Keith Velting; sister-in-law, Linda Barthuly. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Carrie; children, Lindsay and Cameron Townley, Katie and Andrew Crowder, Shane and Monique Barthuly; grandchildren, Hudson, Henry, Madison, Charles, Jack, Eames, Ezra, Georgie, Lillian; parents, Herbert and Dolores Barthuly; parents-in-law, David and Joan Velting; siblings, Glenn Barthuly, Diane and James Pahl, Denise and  Joseph Schreihart; siblings-in-law, Mark and Earlina Velting, Nancy and Daniel Spooner; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Rush Creek Bible Church, 2334 76th St. SW, Byron Center, with Pastor Cameron Townley officiating. Burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Monday, January 27 from 4-7 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Grace Adventures

Bruce was a terrific cousin growing up. I remember lots of laughs and fun. Death doesn't make sense in this world. I loved seeing the impact his life had on his family in all the posts. Prayers to all that are left here for now.

My cousin Bruce and I were very close growing up but after my family moved out of state, Bruce and I both became completely different adults with new lives and spouses. Bruce had grown into an amazing, mature man of God and a devoted father and husband who also lived out of state. I deeply love and admire the man that Bruce became and grieve for all those who are experiencing the excrutiating pain of loss. Bruce was so loved! But I am greatly comforted to know that we both accepted Christ as our personal savior and are children of God, and we will spend eternity together with our Father and so many other loved ones who have gone ahead -- including my parents, and we will have the opportunity to get to know each other again and make up for lost time. Bruce, I'm so proud of you and who you became. God did some of His best work in you. Say hi to my mom and dad and I'll see you on the other side, my wonderful, amazing cousin. Many fond memories of working with Bruce together in youth ministry at Berean Bible Church. We will always remember Bruce’s passion for youth, servant’s heart, and infectious laugh. One day, one day we’ll laugh together again, at the foot of the Father. Praying God’s comfort and peace for you Carrie, and Family. With much love, Jeff and Rachel Rachoy

To my cousin Bruce, I wish I would have been able to spend more time with you and getting to know you better. Know that you will be missed and know that you are loved by many.
