Brigido M. Vilchez

It is with infinite sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Brigido M. Vilchez Sr. of Sparta, Michigan on March 18, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria De La Luz Martinez-Vilchez and Concepción Vilchez, both from Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico and several brothers and sisters. 
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Maynard Vilchez; his children, Brigido Lewis (Sybil) Vilchez, Angelina M. (John) Vilchez, Anthony J. Vilchez; grandchildren, Jesse, Gavin, Elliott, Cecelia, Layla, Juno, and great-grandson, Daniel. 
Brigido immigrated to Michigan from Mexico in 1962 in pursuit of the American Dream, and he soon found his path to building a life in West Michigan. It was there that he soon met the love of his life Marjorie, and their love led them to marriage and raise a family in Sparta, Michigan. 
Brigido always put his family first and was known for his strong work ethic and self-discipline—qualities reflected in his 35-year career at Federal-Mogul, where he retired in 2002. We are grateful for all the lessons he shared with us. Among them, the ability to persevere through adversity. This has helped guide us through life's splendid journey. 
He had a playful sense of humor and loved to joke and tease, always expressing his love in meaningful ways. He was quick to lend a hand whenever anyone needed it. He gifted our family a deep appreciation for our Mexican culture and the Spanish language, and he delighted in enjoying the rich cuisine of Mexico whenever he could. Together, we shared many cherished family trips to Mexico, Canada, and destinations across the United States.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, March 28 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, with Deacon Paul Antor officiating. Burial will be held at Algoma Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Saturday from 10-11 am, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
