Remembering Boyd William Nedry

Boyd William Nedry, age 99, a longtime resident of Comstock Park, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on November 27, 2024. Born in Falmouth, Michigan, he was the son of Fred and Sicley Nedry. Boyd attended Falmouth Elementary School and was a senior at Lake City High School, when he was drafted following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served with distinction in the 5th Bomber Group, 31st Bombardment Squadron of the 13th Army Air Force, and was stationed in the Philippine Islands during the Pacific War. As a B-24 engineer, he completed more than 55 missions and was present at the Japanese surrender on Okinawa. After the war, Boyd returned home and began his career as a finish carpenter in Grand Rapids, later earning his builder's license. Over the years, he built homes throughout West Michigan, leaving a lasting legacy in the communities he served. He was a dedicated member of Alpine Baptist Church for over 50 years and was well known for his unwavering integrity, strong work ethic, and high moral standards. Boyd was a devoted father to six children. He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Eva Thurber; his sister, Marjory VanHaitsma; his brother, Stanley Nedry; his son, Rick Nedry; and his second wife, Doris Nedry. He is survived by his sister, Irene (Marshall) Logan; his brother, Keith (June) Nedry; and his children, Larry Nedry, Linda (Les) Horwitz, Mike Nedry (Karen Edson), Kitty (Dave) Dykstra, Jon Nedry; stepchildren, Don (Carmen) Pollice, John (Sharon) Pollice, Mike Pollice, Shawn (Tammy) Pollice; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Alpine Baptist Church, 692 7 Mile Rd. NW, Comstock Park, MI, with Pastor Phil Cox officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Plainfield Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Finish The Mission West Michigan or by dropping off non-perishable items for local veterans at MKD Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont.
