Beverly Ruth VandenBerg (Jousma), aged 89, lost her battle with Alzheimer's on Sunday, December 4, 2016. She passed peacefully at her home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She will finally be able to join her husband of sixty-six years, Alan Vandenberg with who preceded her in 2012. Beverly was born in Caledonia, Michigan on February 1927. She married in 1946 when Alan returned from WWII. She spent most of her life in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she worked and raised her family. She spent her retirement years in South Texas. She moved to Tuscaloosa in 2011 when she and Alan needed to be closer to family because of his declining health. Beverly loved to read, garden and walk. She enjoyed Bible study and church. The greatest tragedy of her disease was the loss of being able to enjoy reading. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Mark and Cindy of Grand Rapids, Michigan, David and Mary Ellen of McCalla, Alabama. She has six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Beverly was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Jousma and her parents, Rex and Lena Jousma. She is survived by her brothers, Warren Jousma and Walter Jousma; two sisters, Carol Cox and Mary Rudnik. A special thank you to the staff at Morning Pointe, who loved and cared for her in the last months of her life. We will always be grateful for the kindness and love they showed to mother. She will be joining her husband in the Alaska Cemetery near her childhood home in Caledonia, Michigan. The family will have a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
