Bettye Moyer

September 1, 1931 ~
February 5, 2026

Bettye R. Moyer joined her heavenly family February 5, 2026, at the age of 94. Bettye was born in Mount Dora, Florida on September 1, 1931. The family moved to Michigan when she was three for job opportunities for her father. They settled near Cannonsburg, and Bettye attended Rockford Schools, graduating from Rockford High School. Bettye met her husband, Don, on a blind date, being introduced to him as Nod Reyom, his name spelled backwards in case the date didn’t go well. On June 21, 1952, they were married and 11 children followed. Bettye not only took care of her home and children, but many of the neighborhood children as well. As her own children grew and there were no longer any “little ones” at home, Bettye took on jobs in the Godfrey Lee school district. She was a crossing guard, lunch delivery person, bus driver, and helped grade school children with their reading. She donated all her paychecks to a friend whose child needed heart surgery. Bettye’s generosity had no bounds.

Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothy Hobdy; parents-in-law, Walter and Marion Moyer; husband, Donald R. Moyer, Sr.; son, Jerry Moyer; son-in-law, Robert Stevens; and brother, Roger Hobdy. Left to carry on her legacy are her children: Janet Moyer (Michael Hofman), Brenda (Bruce) Taylor, Don (Deb) Moyer, Loran (Laura) Moyer, Stephanie Stevens, Mary (Louis) Wierenga, Ed Moyer, Tom (Julie) Moyer, Jim Moyer, and Barbara Moyer (Rich Van Manen); 14 grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 13, 2026, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, with Rev. Douglas Braun officiating. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
