Betty Vander Iest

Betty Vander Iest, age 92, of Grandville, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, surrounded by her husband of 72 years, Bernie, and the rest of the family. She was born November 23, 1931, to the late Jacob and Cornelia Leegwater. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arie and John Leegwater. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Bernie; four children, Donald and Nancy Vander Iest, Crystal and Gary Van Dyke, Bartel and Tereasa Vander Iest, Bernie Jay Vander Iest; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mary (Keith) Beavon; sisters-in-law, Polly Plekker, Barb Leegwater, and Shirley (Bob) Sawyer. Betty enjoyed sewing, crocheting, pine needle basket weaving, golfing, traveling, and participating in Bible Studies, but most importantly she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s events. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 15, 2024, at South Grandville Church, 4130 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville with Rev. John Witvliet officiating. Burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Thursday, March 14 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home and on Friday from 10-10:45 am at church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice.
