Betty Marie DeVries

Betty DeVries passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the age of 101. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Simon John DeVries; her son, Garry DeVries; her parents, Gerrit and Jansje Schouten; and her sister, Minnie Luytjes. She is survived by her daughter, Judith (Peter) Kammeraad of FL; daughter-in-law, Connie DeVries of OH; grandchildren, Jennifer Kammeraad (Dean Malkiewicz), Kathryn Kammeraad (Carl) both of FL, Jeffrey DeVries of CA, Samuel DeVries of OH; great grandchildren, Aniston, Alayni, Ainsley, and Archer Malkewicz, Garrett, and Tristan Kammeraad all of FL. Betty graduated from Grand Haven High School and attended Calvin College where she met her husband, Simon. She served as a minister’s wife at Christian Reformed Churches in Prairie City, IA, Passaic, NJ, and 14th Street, Holland, MI. She also supported Simon as he taught at Western Seminary and Hope College, Holland, MI, and Methodist Theological School in Delaware, OH. Both Betty and Simon studied, traveled, and lived in The Netherlands, Germany, Egypt, and Israel. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Monday, January 15 at Holland Home Breton Woods Extended Care South Building (Waterview), 2505 44th St. SE, Grand Rapids with Chaplain Les Wiseman officiating. Burial will be held at Lake Forest Cemetery in Grand Haven. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-4 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood and on Monday from 9-10 am prior to the service at Holland Home Waterview Building. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Humane Society of West Michigan.
