Remembering Betty Mae Hansen

Betty Mae (Bowser) Hansen, aged 90, of Grand Rapids, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at New Haven Assisted Living facility in Comstock Park, MI. She was born February 5, 1936, in Kittanning, PA, the daughter of the late Floyd and Goldie Bowser.
An independent spirit with a kind and loving heart, she embraced life and treasured the people she loved. Her family was the center of her world, and she found great joy in spending time with them and creating lasting memories together.
She enjoyed life's simple pleasures, whether it was a trip to the casino, relaxing by the beach, or tending to her beautiful flower gardens. She had a gift in the kitchen and was well known for her delicious home cooking and baking, especially her beloved apple pies, delicious fudge, and fruit salad that family and friends always looked forward to enjoying.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, she retired from Knape & Vogt Manufacturing Company after many years of faithful service. She carried that same strong work ethic throughout her life and took pride in everything she did. Betty was also a long time member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Grand Rapids.
Her independent nature, warm hospitality, and love for her family will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings, Mary Scholl and John Bowser; children, Bernie Boarts, and Carole (Jerry) Skar, both from Belmont MI, Ed (Tina) Boarts of Comstock Park, MI; step sons Todd and Brent Hansen, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Hansen; brothers, Victor Bowser and Loran Bowser; sister, Sylvia Crytzer; daughter-in-law, Susan (Bernie) Boarts.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1025 3 Mile Rd. NE, Grand Rapids.  A private burial will be held at Rosedale Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 6-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, and also from 12-1 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
