Betty Arlene Alters

Jesus called Betty Arlene (Hoff) Alters to His Heavenly Throne Room on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, where she was met by her Savior and reunited with her beloved husband, Ralph “Jim” Alters; her parents, Lawrence and Dorothy (Cronk) Hoff; brother, Earl Hoff; brother-in-law, Cliff Denton; and her first husband, Fredrick “Le Roy” Bast; and many other loved ones. She leaves behind to celebrate her memory, her children: Herman and Sherry Bast, Randy and Judy Bast, Jamie Alters, Terry and Beverly Alters, Stacey Alters and Robert Welch, Brenda Alters; brother, Herman “Bill” and Judy Hoff; sister-in-law, Betty Denton. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. When a stroke stole most of her speech almost three years ago, it caused her inability to sing, but in her younger years she had a beautiful voice; she sang with the Kentwood Senior Singers and was also able to make two records in Nashville, TN. Her accounting career included working for Montgomery Wards, Meijer, and Diocesan Publications. Betty loved her Ada Women’s Bible Study and especially leaders Marie, Sarah, and Kathy, who loved her dearly. She was also a part of Bible Study Fellowship for over ten years. Being an avid reader of the Word and other great books, the library was one of her most favorite places to go (except for the Donut Shop). She loved making beautiful cross stitch scenes and watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Sprout” with her great grandchildren. She added such richness to our lives, for which we are so blessed. We thank the wonderful team of nurses and doctors at Spectrum Health Butterworth, Floor 2 South and Hospice, for their loving care in coming alongside our family during this most difficult time. Funeral services will be held on Thursday 11 am at Ada Bible Church (Kentwood Campus), 2045 68^th St., with Pastor Mark Deering officiating. Interment Blain Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Spectrum Health Hospice or a charity of their choice. We hang on to the promises of Romans 8:38-39, “Nothing separates us from His love. . . not even death” and II Corinthians 5:8, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” See you later, Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma!
