(Nederveld) Penning, age 94, of Grand Rapids, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, surrounded by love, on Tuesday, August 15, 2017.  Her family takes comfort in knowing that God fulfilled her desire to come home to Him.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay B. Penning and her grandson, Erik L. Penning. She will be remembered by her children, Russell and Elaine Penning, Robert and Carol Penning, Randall and Carol Penning, Kathleen and Craig Flietstra. She treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Christopher Penning, John and Julie Penning, Jason and Amy Flietstra [Gavin, Bennett], Bryan and Corrie Flietstra [Kaleb], Erin and Matt Schipper.  Bette is also survived by her sister, Beverly Roedema; sister-in-law, Connie Nederveld; and several nieces and nephews.  She was a proud, 1943 graduate of the Blodgett School of Nursing. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 19, at 11 a.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Henry Admiraal officiating.  Interment will be held at Washington Park Memorial Gardens.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to West Side Christian School, Jenison Christian School, Unity Christian High School, or the charity of one’s choice.
