Bert Bakhuyzen

Bert Bakhuyzen, age 75, of Grandville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 16, 2021, after a short battle with cancer. Bert immigrated to the US from the Netherlands with his family when he was 7 years old. With an entrepreneurial spirit he was able to start his own landscaping business when he was 15 years old, and his business continues with his sons whom he was privileged to work for about 30 years. He was passionate about many things including his serving in the army, many hours of volunteer work in Cadets, and singing in multiple groups. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dirk and Rena Bakhuyzen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nick and Mattie Kooiker; infant brother, Dirk; infant sister, Janna; brothers-in-law, Larry Holst and Roger Groenendyk. Bert will be dearly missed by the love of his life, LaVonne, of nearly 54 years; children and grandchildren, Rob and Paula Bakhuyzen (Abbi, Nathan), Jeff and Jenn Bakhuyzen (Tyler, Braden); siblings, Simon and Linda Bakhuyzen, Rena Holst, Tina and Fred Droski, Dirk and Phyllis Bakhuyzen, Henry and Laura Bakhuyzen, Mary and Dan VanOeveren, Jerry and Kim Bakhuyzen; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marlene Groenendyk, Ruth and George Fennema; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Ivanrest Church, 3777 Ivanrest Ave SW, Grandville, with Pastor Dave Van Noord officiating. Burial Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Jenison Christian School, Calvin Christian School, or the Metropolitan Choir of Praise.
