Bernard Grooters

Bernard Grooters, age 86, of Jenison, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, and now joins his wife of 60 years, Betty; brother, Dan Grooters; and sister, Daughn Cook who preceded him. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Becky and Ed Steenbergen, Bernie and Pattie Grooters, Bev and Der Prins; his grandchildren, Tracy and Bruce Deemter, Brad and Tonya Steenbergen, Jodi and Todd Veldhouse, Jackie and Corey Terpstra, Bernie Grooters III, Mike and Annie Prins, Kyle and Taryn Prins, Matt and Miranda Prins; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bill and Bernice Grooters, Stan Grooters; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joy and Gord Bouws, Helen Kuipers, Judy Geers, Randy and Peg Mulder; many nieces and nephews. Bernie was a kind and loving dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa who was blessed with a great sense of humor and dearly loved his family. He retired from General Motors Diesel Plant as a pipefitter after 30 years of faithful service. Over the years, he enjoyed camping, hunting in Frederic at the Seven Point Lodge with his family, wintering in Florida, and was always a dedicated supporter of all his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. He enjoyed sports and was a dedicated Detroit Tigers fan. Bernie volunteered his time and talents serving his Lord in Cary, Mississippi on various mission projects. Above all, his love for the Lord and commitment to his family was evident to all who knew him. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Ron Baker officiating. Burial at Allendale Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Wednesday from 6-8 pm and also from 10-10:45 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Because of Bernie’s commitment to Christian Education, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to a Christian School of one’s choice.
