Bernard “Bernie” C. Wiersema, age 79, of Jenison, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, following a long and courageous battle with numerous health issues and now has received his crown of righteousness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Grace; brother, George; sister, Hilda Miedema; brothers-in-law, Elmer Miedema, Larry Scholten, Al VanderMolen, Sidney VanderMolen; sisters-in-law, Ruth Wiersema, Wilma Wiersema, Myra VanderMolen, Ruth Droog; parents-in-law, Louis and Anna VanderMolen. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Sylvia; children, Beverly and David Wood, Cindy Hilbrand, Judy and Kelly Glass, Mary Schuitema and her fiancé, Mark Kroft; grandchildren, Jordan and Dani Hilbrand, Cleigh and Melissa Hilbrand, Trevor Hilbrand and girlfriend, Kirsten Dalman, Karley and Kurt Gruppen, Kyle and Kelsey Glass, Taylor and Jacob DeBoer, Katie and Derek Wellman, Travis Schuitema and girlfriend, Tiffany Sikkenga; five great grandchildren and two expected; brother, Rich Wiersema and friend, Shirley Schut; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jo and Ed Brower, Terri and Rog Hulst, John and Karen VanderMolen, Mick Scholten, Lois VanderMolen, Pat and Herb Wouthuis.  Bernie retired from General Motors (36th Street) after 35 years of service.  The family wishes to thank the staff of Faith Hospice for their kindness and compassion shown to Bernie.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 18, at 11 a.m. at Baldwin Street Christian Reformed Church, 2101 Baldwin St., Jenison, with Rev. Don Van Slyke officiating.  Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 6-9 p.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to a Christian school of your choice or the American Diabetes Association.
