Barney Oldfield

The sun rose on June 6, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio and the sun set on January 12, 2023 at Sunset Manor 93 years later at sunset. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years Patricia A. Oldfield; his parents, Clyde and Mary Oldfield; and five siblings. Barney will be lovingly remembered by his children, Pattilyn and Ronald McCarty, Barney Oldfield II (Brenda Alberta), Pam and Jack Cronkright; six grandchildren: Megan and Micah Colon, Emily and Jason Dawes, Paul and Crissey McCarty, Beau and Jennifer Oldfield, Casey and Alesha Cronkright, and Lucas and Jessica Cronkright; and 14 great-grandchildren. Barney attended Godwin High School and Davenport University. He was in the U.S. Air Force as part of the Air University Command. Barney worked as a field engineer for the Burroughs Corporation for 35 years, worked for Jerry Engel at CPR Inc. for 13 years, and finally at Strikers Fun Center for 12 summers. He was very proud to be a founding member of Georgetown United Methodist Church. Barney and Pat made many friends wherever they went. He will fondly be remembered as the grandpa who could fix anything with crazy glue. Barney enjoyed golfing and collecting golf balls throughout the world. He and Pat were avid readers, and he was proud to read over 3000 books in his retirement. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Georgetown United Methodist Church, 2766 Baldwin St. with Pastor Sherri Swanson officiating. Burial will be held at Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Sunday January 22, 2023 from 3-6 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Spectrum Hospice, Sunset Legacy Foundation, or Georgetown United Methodist Church.
