Remembering Barbara   Vredevoogd

Vredevoogd, Barbara Barbara G. (Lotterman) Vredevoogd, age 81, of Jenison, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 15, 2015.  Barbara’s passion was serving her Lord and growing his kingdom.   She did this in many ways as she was involved with Twelfth Ave. Christian Reformed Church Prayer Shawl Ministry and served as the church archivist and historian.  She was on the leadership team for World Wide Christian School, World Home Bible League, Women’s Missionary Union and GRAM-Grand Rapids Area Ministries.  Many children’s lives were touched through a girls club she pioneered called Calvinettes known today as GEMS Girls Club which continues the legacy of bringing girls into a living relationship with Jesus.  Her career in editing and publishing involved working with the Grandville Star and other publications such as, Great Lakes Flyer, Auto Wrecker, and she started Great Lakes Sailing Scanner.  She was a creative speaker and writer.  Barb was the past president of Wyoming Women’s Club, director of Jenison Community Theater, served on the Hudsonville Library Board and was involved with Christian Cottage Imports. Along with her lifelong friend, Gert Dykema, she began the Meals at Home program for Sunset Manor. She enjoyed boating and  the outdoors, especially at the family cabin in Baldwin where many family memories were made. She was always involved with her children and grandchildren’s lives.   She was preceded in death by her twin daughters; granddaughter, Jessica Vredevoogd; sisters, Anne Engels, Kathleen Helder; brother, Dorius Lotterman.  She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, Larry; their children,  Trish and Russ Brummel, Glenn Vredevoogd, Laurie and Jim VanWyk, Carol and Tom Sinke; twelve grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Ed and Victoria Lotterman; sister, Mary Bren; sisters-in-law, Louise and Clarence VanDyken, Carrie and Steve Herrema; several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday 11 am at Twelfth Ave. Christian Reformed Church, 7581 12th Ave., Jenison with Rev. Mark Bennink and Rev. Ray Brinks officiating.  Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Project Canefire (Missions in the Dominican Republic and Haiti).  “If it’s Gods design, He’ll take it the rest of the way.”

It is a blessing to have a mom and a friend for 81 years!!! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family!! God Bless!!! Cousin Hope and LeRoy LeRoy and Hope Stratton

Our prayers for your family in the earthly parting with Barb. I enjoyed getting to know her with library things. What a wonderful smile that came from her heart. Sympathy from mom and dad, Dick and Gert Winkel also. Really getting hard to get them out with winter but mom would have liked to have come. DONNA HEUKER

The Peters family, from next door on Melody Lane, send our sincere condolences on your loss. We just lost my father, Dearl, on Valentine's Day ourselves, so we know the grief you are enduring full well at this time. Its not easy, but in time, the pain will shift to fond remembrance and know you will again see her at some point in the future. Know you are not alone in your loss. Take care. The Peters family. Doug Peters

Larry and Family, What a tremendous blessing it was to service you and your family, can't thank you enough for allowing me to a part of Barb's home coming. Barb wasn't a customer she was indeed a very special friend. From day one we clicked, so much in common. Barb taught me so many things only wish that my time spent with her had been longer. I will be standing in the gap for each one of you as you journey on this new pathway of life. Eleanor DeShane

We just want to wish you our condolences in the loss of your mom, grandma...hugs from Richard and Jackie ( Walcott ) VanEerden Jacqueline VanEerden
