Barbara Clark Ockerman

Barbara Clark Ockerman, a long-time resident of the Grand Rapids area, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019. Born in 1931 in Grandville, MI to Francis and Leslie Shoemaker. Barb attended Lake Odessa High School, graduating in 1948. Soon after high school, Barb married her high school sweetheart, Bill Clark (deceased). Barb and Bill raised six children living in California, Colorado and Michigan (Caledonia). Her last residence was Thornapple Manor in Hastings. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Greg (Barbara Ann), Eric (Linda & Sylvia), Mark (Cindy), Debbie (Dick) Shaffer, Jayne (Clare) Sherwood, Kathy (Ken) Junglas. Barb is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Barb later married Merle Ockerman (deceased) and is survived by her brother, Dale (Ilene) Shoemaker; sister, Marlene McKinney and sister-in-law, Mary Shoemaker. Barb always enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends. She was very devoted and nurturing. Her generosity showed in every aspect of her life. She loved to sing and cook, she was a faithful member of Community of Christ Church, donating her time cooking for many. She was a great listener and always seemed to know the right things to say. Her smile lit up everyone that she came in contact with. A one-of-a-kind, she will be noticeably missed. Everyone is welcome to join her family for a visitation held on Friday, February 8th, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 616 E. Main St. SE, Caledonia, MI 49316. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 9th at 11:00am, at Alaska Community of Christ (RLDS Church), 8146-68th St. SE, Alto, MI 49302. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment Grandville Cemetery.
