August 21, 2025

Austin Thomas Cowan, 34, passed away on August 21, 2025, in Grandville,  Michigan, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on September 28, 1990, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Austin brought joy and  laughter to those around him from an early age. His vibrant personality and unwavering love for his family defined his life and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Austin was a devoted husband to Rebecca Cowan, they were soulmates from the very beginning, best friends who shared an inseparable bond. He was a  loving father to their four children: Spencer, Preston, Addalyn, and Sophie. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Whether cheering from the sidelines or sharing quiet moments at home, Austin’s presence was a constant source of strength and warmth.

He was the beloved son of Brent and Susan Cowan and the cherished brother of Megan Mattingly (Chris Brown). He also shared close bonds with his in-laws, Craig and Lori Myers; brother-in-law, Matthew Myers; and sisters-in-laws, Natalie, Allison (Zach), and Jessica (Eric). Austin’s extended family included countless grandmothers, nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who all held special places in his heart.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Austin especially loved football and was a  dedicated fan of the New England Patriots. His enthusiasm for all sports was  infectious—whether watching games or discussing stats with friends and family. Beyond sports, he was known for giving the best hugs and for his remarkable sense of humor that could light up any room.

Austin faced his illness with bravery and resilience that inspired those around  him. A true Warrior. Even during difficult times, he remained focused on what  mattered most—his love for his family and making memories together.

May Austin’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him. His legacy lives on  in the laughter he shared, the love he gave so freely, and the strength he  showed throughout his journey. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the "Cowan Family Fund" at any Huntington Bank location.

A celebration of life has been planned for a future date.

Austin was one of the only people I worked with at Farmers that I instantly clicked with. He was such a nice person, one of the nicest I have ever met. It is not fair what happened and I am so sorry that this happened to him and his family. He will be greatly missed.

I'm so sorry about Austin. I found a scripture on JW.org that I like to share, Acts 24:15, "there is going to be a resurrection", I wish your family the very best for the future.

There are no words cuz, I’m so sad we didn’t get to spend more time together but I’m glad for the amazing fun memories we have from the last times we did, both our weddings. You are greatly missed.

Brent and Susan and all family members, my heart aches for you with the loss of Austin. I’ve been following his courageous journey, kept him in my daily prayers along with his loving wife and children. God gained a new angelic soul and he now rests in peace. My sympathies to all. 🙏❤️‍🩹

My buddy, my work little brother, my friend—Austin, you fought harder and loved bigger than anyone I’ve ever known. You filled every room with laughter, sarcasm, and that sneaky grin that usually meant trouble (the fun kind). I’ll miss our inside jokes, our daily banter, and most of all, you. Rest easy, brother—you left us too soon, but you left us better for knowing you. ❤️💙💛
