Arthur Schoenborn

January 9, 1945 ~
December 17, 2020

On a Saturday night in 1966, across the dance floor a blonde caught the eye of a tall redhead, and so a love story began. Five months and one day later, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muskegon, they committed their lives to each other and were blessed to have been married for more than 54 years. Art was preceded into eternal life by his parents, Lorraine Arends Schoenborn and Aloys Schoenborn and his Sleeping Angel grandsons, Ian, Evan, and Jonas Schoenborn. Art was cared for by “his angel” wife, Michelle (Mickey) Habetler Schoenborn. His children and all of their children will miss him dearly. They include: Dennis Schoenborn and his son, Deacon, and daughter, Cassidy; Scott Schoenborn, his wife, Candy, and their daughters, Emma and Ailie; Lisa and Jon Voss and their sons, Kellen, Travis, Maddox (Max), and McClain (Mickey); Mike Schoenborn his wife, Amy and Mike’s sons, Aidan and Nathaniel; Julie and Bob Veldman and their daughters, Gabriella, Robin, and Erin and sons, Jacob, Keith, Kevin, and Kyle; and Art’s ten great-grandchildren. Art retired from General Motors as a skilled trades pipefitter and was dedicated to the charitable goals of the Knights of Columbus Council 7487. He was a proud Knight that recruited more than 100 Knights, he led his council for a term as Grand Knight and worked alongside many great men. He worked hard to supply multiple food pantries throughout the diocese to help families in need. He was a great lover of creatively crafted homemade wine with all of the God-given fruits sent his way. Art served his country in the Michigan National Guard for 10 years. If you ever crossed paths with Art, you know that he was a fine storyteller and you most likely heard about his passion for wine making, and you probably were sent home with a bottle (or two). If you are so inclined, please pour yourself a glass of Art’s wine or another favorite beverage and toast to a lost loved one. Our family is a circle of strength and love. With every birth and every union, the circle grows. Every joy shared adds more love. Every crisis faced together makes the circle stronger. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Art’s life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish, 2700 Baldwin St., Jenison (masks and social distancing measures will be in place). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Sleeping Angels Endowment Fund through the Spectrum Health Foundation or to Interim Healthcare Hospice.

Mickey and family, We are so sorry about your loss and ours. We will miss Art and his humor that will resonate in the coming days as we will move on with our lives. “May angels lead him to our parents side.” Says the prayer of farewell. With faith in our hearts we know we will see Art again as he will be waiting to say,”Try this one.” Never say there is no winning in heaven. As Kate has a cold and the roads are so ice covered we will not be able to attend the service, but know that our hearts and prayers are with you now and in the coming days. Love, Kate and Davo

With deepest sympathy to all. Art was my second cousin, neighbor and classmate for 12 years at St. Joe's and Ravenna High School. There are many fond memories of our years together while living on 24th Avenue... Margaret Mary

Mickey and family... Words at this time don't mean much, but for what it's worth... It's been 10 years since Carmen and I moved to Denver and to this day Art has still been an influence in my life. Art has exemplified the the 1st Order of the Knights of Columbus, Charity. In my years at Holy Redeemer, Art modeled and witnessed to this pillar of our Order of Charity. Anyone in need or support, who was leading the charge? Brother Art, thank you for your example and witness to charity and helping me to be a better faithful servant. Rest in peace my brother. Cheers and prayers are with you and your family. Vivat Jesus!

Dear Mickey, I am so glad God gave us a chance meeting again last year, of all places, in the produce department at Meijer! It was wonderful seeing you and Art again and exchanging fond memories and stories. You and your family meant so much to all of us at Rosewood School. Now I am saddened to hear of Art's passing, and my prayers will continue with you all. Love to you and your great kids. Isaiah 41:10...."So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Vivat Jesus ~ It was my honor to know you and work on the food pantry items together as well as all the church functions. The wine tastings in your garage were always memorable, and you & Mick made the finest peanut brittle on the planet. Thank you for all your hospitality & friendship. Put a good word in for me with St. Peter if you would, I might need a referral or two. Rest in Peace and Sincere Condolences to the family, Art was a good man.
