Arthur Howson

HOWSON - Mr. Arthur T. Howson "Art" age 85, passed away peacefully in the early dawn Monday, August 15, 2016. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Kai Sun; sister, Janet Firchau and sister-in-law, Sara Cornwell. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ruth; children, Kathleen Sun, John Howson, Carolyn (John) Calcutt; grandchildren, Laura (Ryan) Smith, Kristen (Kyle) Rose, Emily Sun, Christine (Carlos) Medina; great grandchildren, Jack, Dean and Clark Cruz Medina, his first great granddaughter expected in December; brothers, William (Anne) Howson Jr., John Cornwell; sister-in-law, Lois Coulson; several nieces and nephews. Art graduated from Saginaw High and continued his education at MSU. He retired as a Professor of Education from WMU. Art enjoyed many hobbies during his lifetime including, sailing, downhill skiing, running, biking the White Pine Trail, extensive traveling and of course cheering for his alma mater MSU. He was a lifelong learner, had a calming presence, a wonderful sense of humor and always focused on the positive. After retiring, Art enjoyed volunteering in Rockford. A visitation celebrating Art's life will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 3PM to 4PM at the Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Dr. NE., Belmont.
