Armella Zapolnik

Armella Kathryn Zapolnik (Steffes), 90 years old, died peacefully at home on Sunday evening, August 23, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born on March 7, 1930.  Armella was married for 60 years to Ted Zapolnik who preceded her in death in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents Nicholas and Laura Steffes, sisters and brother-in-law Norine and Eddie Gratz, Norma and Jerry Hoek, sister-in-law Pat Steffes, brother-in-law, Walt Szurna, nephew Steve Gratz, father-in-law and mother-in-law Anthony and Anna Zapolnik. Together Ted and Armella raised five children Bob (Brenda) Zapolnik, Larry (Teresa) Zapolnik, Karen Zapolnik, Ron Zapolnik, Mary Spruit; grandchildren Tony (Jen) Zapolnik, Katie (Mike) Fewless, Michael Zapolnik, Andy (Michelle) Zapolnik, Matthew Zapolnik, Laura Zapolnik, Erin Spruit, Stephanie Spruit and fiancé Jesus Pulido; great grandchildren, Merek, Jensen, and Ava Zapolnik, Joseph, Clare, and soon to arrive baby girl Fewless, Lucas, Caleb, Hailey, and Kelsey Zapolnik. All will greatly miss her. Also surviving are her sisters Erma Szurna and Mary Dilly, brothers Marv (Jan) and Mel (Maxine) Steffes and many nieces,nephews, and cousins. Armella was a devout Catholic always praying the rosary. She was a two-time cancer survivor who loved spending time with her family and dancing with Ted. Special thanks to Buck and Paulette Bockheim for bringing Holy Communion to both Ted and Armella for many years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 1630 Godfrey Ave. SW, Wyoming, with Fr. Stephen Dudek presiding. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf, 4031 Clyde Park SW, with a Rosary at 6:30 pm, and one hour prior to Mass at Church. Donations in memory of Armella may be made to either Holy Name of Jesus Church or Emmanuel Hospice.
