Arlene Briggs Overway, age 94, of Jenison, peacefully entered her Heavenly Home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, February 1, 2018. Arlene was born and raised on a farm in Charlotte. She was the secretary for the Jenison Public Schools Superintendent until retirement. She was active in her church since 1954, and she continued to play cards weekly with her friends from church. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Briggs and Edmund Overway, and her son, Bill Briggs. Surviving are her children, Kim and Vicki Briggs, Robin Briggs, Brent and Wilma Overway, and Sally Overway; grandchildren, Ashley and Ryan Newberry (Ryder and Walker), Courtney Briggs and fiancée Ben Kimble, Holly and Scott Kristen, Carrie and Rick Cornelisse (Natalie, Emery), Whitney Sharp and Chris Brew, Shannon Briggs (Korena, Breanna, Kayla Ung), Rev. David and Rebecca Overway (Joseph, Elena, Benjamin), Susan and Brett VanKoevering, Bethanne and Mark Lenting (Nicole), Jennifer and Patrick Lenting (Brooke, Conner, Tressa, Wyatt), Matthew and Christina Overway (Levi, Gwenyth, Cora, Judah); and great great granddaughter, Melina Ung-Riddick. We want to thank Sunset Manor for their years of care. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Grandville United Methodist Church, 3140 Wilson Ave. SW, with Rev. Ryan Wieland and Rev. David Overway officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Monday from 6-9 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville and 10 to 10:45 am Tuesday at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Sunset Legacy Foundation.
