Arlene Jean (Ponstein) Kamps, age 85, of Jenison, formerly of Grand Rapids, was called to her eternal home on Saturday, August 16, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Cornelius Kamps. She was the loving mother of Carey and Lois Kamps, David and Karla Kamps, Lavonne and Terry Kooienga, Sandra and Jim Westing, Ruth and Dave Gunnink, Lynn and Larry VanOverloop, Jonathon and Tricia Kamps; the loving grandmother of 34 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren. She was thankful to God that her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren walk in the fear of the Lord. Also surviving are her sister, Gladys and George DeVries; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gib Schimmel, Marge Kamps, Marge Mollema, John and Myra Kamps, Louis and Esther Kamps, Marvin and Nancy Kamps, Leon Kamps; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday 10:30 am at Hope Protestant Reformed Church, 1580 Ferndale SW, Walker with Prof. Herman Hanko and Rev. David Overway officiating. Interment Riverbend Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Covenant Christian High School.
