Arie Nobel Jr.

November 16, 2020

Pastor Arie Cornelius Nobel Jr., of Jenison, Michigan, went home to be with his precious Savior in the early morning hours of Monday, November 16, 2020. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, just shy of his 80th birthday. Arie was the oldest of 10 children, born to Arie Sr. and Everdeen (Slager) Nobel in Georgetown Township, Michigan, on December 5, 1940. He met the love of his life, Sybel DeVries, while attending Calvin and they soon married. They had eight children and in 1980 he accepted a call to minister at Burning Bush Reformed Church, where he faithfully served the congregation for 40 years until the Lord called him home. He will be most remembered for his unyielding perseverance in preaching the gospel truth no matter what the cost. Revelation 14:13: “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” Arie was preceded in death by his wife, Sybel; his parents; daughter, Rebecca; grandson, Caleb; brother, Pete Nobel; brothers-in-law, Ron VanderBent and Clarence Davids. He is survived by sons and daughters, Jephthah (Arlene) Nobel, Scott Kunst, Enoch (Nancy) Nobel, Nate Nobel, Lydia (Jay) Bouman, Jonathan (Kari) Nobel, Barak (Stacy) Nobel, Amos Nobel; 35 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Ruth Nobel, Mary (Tom) Hoekstra, Faith (Ron) Bosserman, Joyce VanderBent, Phyllis (Dave) Mulder, Jacque (Don) Jonker, Janice (Justin) Otten, John Nobel, Dennis (Kim) Nobel; and many nieces and nephews. A private graveside service was held at Georgetown Cemetery with Rev. Jephthah Nobel officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Michigan.

Leave Your Tribute Message

Our sympathy is extended to the Nobel family on the passing of your father and patriarch Arie. He was certainly a man of deep convictions and stood solidly on God’s Word as he interpreted it And although he appeared a little offsetting and gruff on the exterior, you could see a twinkle in his eye and a sense of humor close to the surface. His passing will no doubt leave a big hole in the Nobel clan.

Sorry for your loss. He was a dedicated walker in our neighborhood. I had the pleasure of walking with him a few times. He was a soft spoken man who loved the Lord. He will be missed. Jack & Joie
