Anthony “Tony” Trapani

Anthony “Tony” Trapani, aged 83 of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvatore “Sam” Trapani and Josephine Trapani; loving wife of 50 years, Dolly; brothers, Jerry, Joe, Andy; sisters, Vincenza and Jeanie; and many other family. Tony is survived by his sister, Arlene (Ray) Schulte; faithful sisters-in-law, Bernice, Eleanore, Patricia, Betty and Rose; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members. Tony proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany. Tony was baptized and brought up in the Roman Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MI. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also a longtime member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church. During Tony and Dolly's marriage, they enjoyed a great vacation to Hawaii. Tony loved children and always had lots of candy for them when they came over to visit. Tony and Dolly had a dog named Squeaky and one named Shadow, which they loved very much and were a big part of their family. Tony loved listening to music on the radio and enjoyed going to the Summer Concerts in the Park. His favorite music was from the 1940's Era. Tony was adored by his nephews and he often took them deer hunting. Dolly also enjoyed deer hunting with Tony. Tony also enjoyed deer hunting with his Uncle Jim, brother-in-law Ray, and many other friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing very much. Tony and Dolly owned a cabin with 40 acres of land across from the Manistee National Forest in Chase, MI. He loved going to restaurants with his family to eat. Tony was a very generous man and always insisted his family join his as his guest. Some of his favorite restaurants included Grand Villa Restaurant for prime rib, First Wok for Chinese food, and Brann's for a steak dinner. Tony loved sweets also. Chocolate cake was a favorite of his as well as jelly doughnut's from Marge's Doughnut Den. He worked as a foreman at Johnson's Furniture Company until his retirement. Tony grew to love his hobby of collecting and cleaning golf balls from around the local golf course's. Over the years, he collected 100's of golf balls. He loved giving golf balls to family and friends that play golf. Tony also collected the color golf balls for Dolly that she loved to keep. He was loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, 50 Bellevue SW, Wyoming. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, on Sunday from 2-4 pm with a vigil held at 4 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of West Michigan or Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
