Andrew VanderWilp

December 25, 1938 ~
October 1, 2024

Andrew Frank Vanderwilp was born Andre Fokko Vanderwilp on December 25, 1938, in the village of Noordhorn in the Netherlands. The youngest of four children, he and his family lived through WWII. They immigrated to the US when he was a teenager, and his name was changed. It was a two-week boat trip across the Atlantic and he always said it was one of the best times in his life, having endless fun exploring the ship.

He was in the Michigan National Guard for over 20 years responding to natural disasters. So, when people's lives were turned upside down, he was one of the people who would show up to try to set things right.

Soon a young woman named Margaret caught his eye and they were married for over 64 years. His grandkids remember his funny stories and offbeat sense of humor.

Our father was a man with his own unique shortcomings and imperfections, just like every other person in the world. Even so, his five children, their spouses, loads of grandkids and great-grandkids can say that we are where we are because of how he faithfully lifted us up and launched us out into the world. He died on October 1, 2024.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 7, at 11 a.m. at Lee Street Christian Reformed Church, 1261 Lee St. SW, Wyoming. Please join the family for a luncheon immediately following the funeral at the church. The burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Potter's House Christian School

I remember Andy fondly during all of our years at Grandville Ave CRC. Praying for peace as comfort for the entire family as you go through this difficult time.

Andy always took good care of Margaret. I know she enjoyed all the Bus trips they took to various places. I'm sure she was happy too that he did the talking. They were made for each other. God Bless
