Remembering Andrew John Rodenhouse
Andrew John Rodenhouse, eight days shy of 94, born on May 26, 1922, received his eternal reward on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, when his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ called him home. Andrew was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude (Dykstra) of 29 years, and also his second wife, Ardene (DeGraaf) of nearly 25 years. He is survived by his third wife, Maxine (Arens); his brother, Harold Rodenhouse; sister-in-law, Barb Rodenhouse; Andy’s children, Donna (Harris) Rotman, Tom (Pat) Rodenhouse, Ron (Renee) Rodenhouse, and Cherie Camp; his step children, Clare (Susan) DeGraaf, Rick (Debbie) DeGraaf, Gary (Kathy) DeGraaf; and step children, Myrna (Dennis) Kamper, Nancy (Calvin) Kleinheksel, and Karen (Andrew) Kamper; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Andrew proudly served his country during WWII, while in the United States Air Force. After honorable discharge, Gert and he made their home in Walker. After employment with Jordan Buick and Meulenburg/Rodenhouse, he decided to venture out on his own and began Rodenhouse Body Shop, which he owned and operated for 30 years. Andrew loved serving God by spending time at church, which for many years was at Walker Christian Reformed Church, serving as Sunday school superintendant and elder. Andrew always dreamed of driving a team of horses and giving tours on Mackinac Island, so he and Ardene spent a couple of summers on the island. While married to Maxine, she said if she couldn’t find him, he was in the barn fixing bikes to give away. Despite being orphaned with his four siblings (his twin Marian, Florence, Philip [all deceased], and Harold) at age 11, Andrew lived a very full and blessed life. To God be the glory. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Walker United Reformed Church,1941 Randall NW, Grand Rapids. Interment Rosedale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday, May 20, 2016 from 6-9 PM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International and Forgotten Man Ministries, as Andy was never ashamed of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and volunteered with these ministries to further God’s Kingdom.
