Amaya Hayley Dietz, age 17, of Kentwood, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 13, 2020. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5 NIV). She was preceded in death by her father, Christopher Martel. She will be lovingly remembered by her father and mother; Jake and Kate Dietz; brothers, Sean Martel and Jackson Dietz; sister, Avi Dietz; grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many relatives and friends. Amaya was a light in a dark place. Everyone who knew her would always say that they had never met a person like her before. She was very passionate, spontaneous, funny and she is now at peace in mind and spirit. A private celebration of Amaya’s life will be held at Crossroads Bible Church (the service will be live streamed for the public on the church’s website: crossroads-bible.org). Amaya’s family would like to express the need for anyone who is experiencing depression or having difficulties, to please reach out to someone or call a suicide hotline. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Amaya can be made  to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/donate/) or to Amaya Giving Campaign (https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8nrsX271vy).

Amaya and I were on the diving team together back in middle school, we also had Algebra 1 together. I know this was some time ago, but I’m still so grateful for the memories we share. I can’t imagine the pain you all are going through. I wish it didn’t end this way, but I’m so happy that she is finally at peace.

Sending my condolences to the entire family. Loss of a loved one is one of the most difficult things we experience during this time on earth . I wish I had taken a walk down the street and gotten to know Amaya. I am here for you however, if there is something more I can do. You will be in my prayers.
