Alphonso Catalano

CATALANO-Mr. Alphonso "Al" "Fo" H. Catalano, aged 88 of Kentwood passed away Sunday March 20, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Eleanor Catalano; brothers, Anthony and Phillip; sister, Mary Arbanas. Al is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rose; children, Eleanor (Dan) Scalici, Paul (Cindy) Catalano, Marie Carroll; special friend, Craig "Stu" Cebelak; grandchildren. Jessica (Joel) Fransens, Andrea and Michelle Catalano, Mike (Kristine) Scalici, Steve Scalici; Great granddaughter, Hailey Fransens; brother, Joseph (Edith) Catalano; brothers-in-law, Robert Arbanas, Gasper Scaturro; sister-in-law, Dorothy Catalano; several nieces and nephews. Al proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, The Sons of Italy and spent many years volunteering at Our Lady of Sorrows activities especially their ever popular Spaghetti Dinners. He also enjoyed walking with friends at Roger's Plaza. One of Al's greatest joys was spending time with family at their cottage on Diamond Lake. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 101 Hall St SE. His family will greet relatives and friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM at the Stegenga Funeral Chapel-Wyoming, 3131 S. Division Ave., and one hour prior to Mass at church. Prayers of the rosary will be recited at 7:30PM Tuesday. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or a charity of one's choice.
