Remembering Albert Ritsema
Albert J. Ritsema, age 97, of Hudsonville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Al loved his Lord and Savior and faithfully served Him throughout his life. He was a godly example to his family, passing his faith on to his many descendants. A devoted member of 12th Avenue Christian Reformed Church, Al served faithfully as a deacon, elder, and Cadet leader for many years.
He enjoyed golfing, camping and cherished the time spent watching and supporting his family at their sporting events, school activities, and church events.
By trade, he was a plasterer and took great pride in his craft. He was truly an artist with a hawk and trowel, leaving behind a legacy of skill and dedication in his work. Above all, he treasured the people around him and the many opportunities to support and encourage his family and community.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 31 years, Shirley; and his second wife of 43 years, Gladys. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Douglas and Connie Ritsema, Curt and Teresa Ritsema, Barbara and John Steffens; stepchildren, Rex and Lou Ann Kloostra, Nancy and Randy Kraker; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 9 step great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sandy Santjer; step sister-in-law, Mary Bultema; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Ron Baker officiating. The burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday, from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
