AJ Smith, age 58, of Grand Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Jane Smith; and father-in-law, Bernie Kunnen. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 34 years, Kristin; son Kaleb; brother, Chris and Jill Smith; mother-in-law, Ila Kunnen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kevin and Barb Kunnen, Karl and Jan Kunnen, Kurt and Tracie Kunnen, Kyle and Becca Kunnen; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Baldwin Street Church, 2101 Baldwin St., Jenison, with Pastor Don Van Slyke officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans).

I am so saddened to hear this news. I remember AJ as a Middle Schooler. He was always a lot of fun and a hard worker. We all went to the same church together and I can still see him sitting on the front pew on Sunday evenings when his mom would be playing the organ. AJ was gifted musically himself, as a trombone player. He was a good soul and the world was a better place with him in it.
