A. M. “Dyk” Dykhouse

A. M. “Dyk” Dykhouse, age 92, of Wyoming, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015. He leaves behind nephews and nieces, Sybrant Dykhouse III of Cascade, Bealynn Dooling of Jenison, Doug Dykhouse of Pennsylvania, Kathy Wallis of Texas; and many generations of the Gerald and Arlene Bouwhuis family. Dyk was born in Lakeview, MI and moved with his family to Wyoming Park at the age of four. He graduated from Grand Rapids Junior College and later received a degree in mechanical engineering from MSU on the GI Bill. He was a B-24 co-pilot during World War II, stationed in southern Italy. After college, he worked for Blackmer Pump in Grand Rapids and then moved to Florida to work for General Dynamics in their missile systems during the 1960’s. He worked on both the Mercury and Gemini space programs at Cape Canaveral. He transferred to San Diego, CA where he worked in the Convair Division developing the F-111 fighter jet at Edwards Air Force Base. In 1969, he moved back to Michigan where he worked for John Potter Construction Co. until retirement. Dyk characterized himself as a procrustean person in a protean world – he was a rigid being in a world that is constantly changing and assuming different forms. He had the gift of recall, being able to instantly recite jokes, adages and poems. This ability was instrumental in his being helpful to so many people that he sponsored over the years. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday 11:00 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. with Pastor Rodney Otto and Mr. Louis Hall officiating. Interment Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may gather to pay their respects Monday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
