Mary Jane Van Diepenbos

Mary Jane Van Diepenbos (Steenwyk), born on October 7, 1938, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Sunday, May 13, 2018. Mary, the daughter of Andrew and Nella (Northouse) Steenwyk, was born in Zeeland, Michigan, and graduated from Holland Christian High School. She then graduated from Calvin College with her B.A. in Elementary Education. On July 7, 1962, Mary wed Mearl Van Diepenbos and they had three children, Mark, Mike, and Marie. Mary taught at both Oakdale and Jenison Christian Schools and retired from the Young Calvinist Federation, where she worked as a financial secretary. Mary was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She loved nature, especially canoeing and hunting waterfalls. Upon retirement, Mary kept busy with traveling, scrapbooking and tutoring. For the past few years, she was very involved volunteering for Kids Hope USA. Mary was preceded in death by the love of her life, Mearl; her parents, Andrew and Nella; her brother, Gerrit Steenwyk; and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Koruna (Van Diepenbos). She is survived by her children, Mark (Robin), Mike (Liz) and Marie (Phil) Bauman-Wyman; grandchildren, Audrey (Dan), Andrew, Eric, Erica (Nick), Joel, Tiffany (Matt), Matthew, Sarah, Tyler, and Elena; great grandchildren, Xander, Sophia, Layla, and Dalton; sisters, Barb (John) Wiegers and Ruth (Marv) Vos; sister-in-law, Evonne Steenwyk; brother-in-law, Bill Koruna; and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018 at First Christian Reformed Church of Grand Rapids, 650 Bates Street SE, with Pastor Randy Buursma officiating. Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Kids Hope USA and First Church.
