Madeline Christensen

Madeline “Mickey” (Morris) Christensen, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. Like many from her generation, Mickey was a stay-at-home wife and mother. Raising four boys was a labor of love and she would sarcastically say, “Didn’t you know I raised four perfect children?”  Mickey was always willing to help at school functions along with many other dedicated moms from the neighborhood.  As her boys got older and became involved with activities, she and dad were always in attendance giving their support. When her children had doubts, she was understanding, stern, but kind in saying, “Well you won’t know unless you try.” and also would say, “I have faith in you.” Mickey loved Tiger baseball and Spartan basketball, and watched them faithfully.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin Christensen; parents, Earle and Frieda Morris; and step grandson, Brian Appel. She is survived by her sons, Mark (Sheri) Christensen, Greg Christensen (Mary Andrews), Randy Christensen (Marcia Johnson), Kim (Candace) Christensen; grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Christensen, Katie (Gary) TenHaaf, Hilary (Clark) Gilman; step granddaughter, Courtney Appel; great-grandchildren, Finnegan, Knox, Makenzie, JoAnna, Ebbie, Ryan, and a new addition due April 14, 2020. The family would like to thank the nurses at American House and all the medical staff at Metro Health University of Michigan Hospital for being with Mickey when her family could not be. We believe she was not alone and would have kind words for all who cared for her. Due to the current health concerns regarding COVID-19, a private family service was held. A service to celebrate Mickey’s life will be held at a later date. The burial was held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or The American Heart Association.

Warm memories of growing up next door on Cleveland St. Mickey was such a beautiful, glamorous Mom. I remember her babysitting me one night and I got to take a bath, in bubbles (all by myself )which was a special treat as I have 4 sisters and 2 brothers. She included a powdering with a big pink puff. She was so gentle and fun! I felt so special.

To Kim and family, I remember your Mother very well, she was always at all of our school functions like the hot dog lunches. She had such beautiful dark hair and a ready smile. You were blessed to have such a wonderful Mother. Prayers to you all for peace during this difficult time. Sincere Sympathy, Your Friend and classmate, Teri Berridge Doughty
